Devious Journal Entry

OMG YOU GUYS. Just got back from Knowing. WHAT A HORSE TURD.

Look, I'm not going to ruin it for you but if you want to avoid spoilers, I suggest you steer clear of Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and, say, the Left Behind series. Or, you know, ANY MOVIE NICK CAGE HAS BEEN IN IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.

Why is Nicolas Cage Hollywood's go-to guy for something-is-wrong-and-unbelievable-i-know-it-sounds-crazy-beautiful-lady-but-you-gotta-trust-meeeeee!? It's like watching your gross uncle and how is it even sort of believable that he gets Jessica Biel in that one movie?

I am done with you Nicholas Cage, NEVER AGAIN.

Today, me and my 2nd grade mullet are featured on www.sexypeople-blog.com. I still maintain that this is not a mullet-proper — mullets start at the crown of the head — as it was really more of an overgrown rat-tail at the nape, more of an Alladin Sane, if you will.

I am fully prepared to take total credit for this haircut, as my mom attests to repeatedly trying to talk me out of it, but I would not hear it. I attribute this to the hours of MTV I watched as a very young kid. I would stand on the couch — with a golf club shoved between the cushions, and tennis racket for a guitar, in nothing but G.I. Joe underwear — singing along to Tears for Fears’ “Shout,” Madonna’s “Material Girl” (eesh), and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” at the top of my lungs, or into a Fisher-Price tape recorder, or, most likely, both. The tape from which would either be played later in the Fisher-Price tape recorder, or in my Teddy Ruxpin, volume: cranked.

Use Your Heads, People

I just got an invite for the an artzine that's coming up over at WhoredCanvas.net and... more and more I find myself facepalming over stuff like this.

The artists that have signed on are are pretty great, and the site itself is chocked full of potentially useful content. And I wish them a hearty and lucrative success. HOWEVER. Really? Your site's name is Whored Canvas?

I am not "whoring" my canvas. I am not a "canvas whore." That's just plain old bad branding. "Hi, I am professional artist. Perhaps you have seen my work on WHOREDCANVAS?" I am never going to say those words. "Deviant"Art is bad enough. The whole thing smacks of high-school goth art project gone completely hackneyed and cliché. Also, my mom looks at my art, and I am never sending her a link to WHOREDcanvas.net -- I'm expecting a call from our IT kids, just for clicking the link while I was at work.

Whatever. Thank you -- but no, thank you.

If I Had a Heart

Lately I've been in a really dark electro hole, musically speaking -- if you would like to sing along, I've primarily been listening to:

The Knife - Silent Shout
Fever Ray - Fever Ray
Zeigeist - Zeigeist
Ladytron - Velocifero
Portishead - Third
Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree
Lamb - Lamb
Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia
The Presets - Apocalypso

And in that dark electro hole, there is occasionally a brilliant flash of rainbow neon disco light, primarily in the form of:

Hercules and Love Affair - Hercules and Love Affair
